MT RUAPEHU

Mt Ruapehu located in the middle of the North Island of New Zealand. 4.5 hours drive from Wellington & Auckland, smack in the middle making it a popular destination for skiing, snowboarding, hiking, nature lovers and holiday goers. Ruapehu is home to two ski fields, Whakapapa and Turoa there is 550 hectares of incredible terrain awaits you! Whakapapa is one of NZ's largest ski areas & boasts the country's premier beginner facility Happy Valley along with vast intermediate and advanced trails. Explore everything from cruisy groomers to exhilarating chutes, bumps & drops, made all the more exciting by the natural volcanic terrain. We have shuttles to and from the Whakapapa Ski Field, having your own car is an inexpensive way to travel around our region & villages. 

We are a one stop shop for a ski escape with a drying room in winter, bag storage, car storage, great source of information on how to get to the mountain, Ski Shop to hire ski gear across the road, open until late on a Friday (Midnight) and 7pm on week days. Ski passes are best to be bought on line  https://www.mtruapehu.com and can be collected at a ticket collector up on the mountain. This is the best way of purchasing tickets as it avoids the ques & line ups on a busy Saturday or school holidays.

Happy Valley

Learn to ski & ride at NZ's best beginners' facility. A fully self-contained learners’ area, Happy Valley boasts a rental complex and ski school meeting area, while also being free of advanced skiers and snowboarders.
The slope is nice and long with a gentle gradient, allowing you to really get the hang of turning and stopping. Progress your skills and laps with the aid of Happy Valley's covered carpet lifts.

TUKINO CLUB FIELD

Need a change? Try the ‘Wild Side’ Tukino Club Field with access via the Desert Road.

Nestled on the eastern slopes of Mt Ruapehu in New Zealand’s North Island, Tukino Ski Field offers the rare combination of adventure and lack of crowds, coupled with the friendliness and camaraderie that’s only found on club-operated fields. Tukino is a club ski field operated and maintained by club members. This is what skiing used to be like — before hectic lifestyles and commercial interests took over! 

Access is via a four-wheel-drive track or call 0800-885-466 to arrange transport.

Straight across the road from Plateau Lodge is Ski Biz. It caters for all your needs whether it is summer or winter. The prices are highly competitive and there are packages from one day or even five days. We have a good selection of snow goodies to keep you going while you’re down here, including snow goggles, sunglasses, beanies, hats, gloves, sunscreen, thermal gear and much more! Eivins Ski & Board

Head to Eivins Ski and Board right at the foot of Mount Ruapehu in National Park Village for ski and snowboard rental and servicing. Eivins is open daily from 7am during the winter ski season and its close proximity to the mountain means you’ll get a head start for the chairlift! We’re also open on Fridays until midnight and for shorter mountain days.
